New Year, New Books

by Julie Gibbons on January 8, 2010

We all love a good book. To be honest, I can’t think of anything more precious, other than time – and a few special people (you know who you are!).

So I thought I’d share a few of my latest with you – please feel free to be inspired.

Were you lucky enough to get a pile of books for Christmas? No such pile for me, but I can’t say I wasn’t delighted with the two that I was lucky enough to receive. The Shakespeare is not only full of divine info, it looks and feel great – one to get stuck into in short bursts for inspiration. Hugh Furry Weathercoat is somewhat ubiquitous these days, and I wholeheartedly endorse the River Cottage approach – and all of its endeavours.  Everyday does exactly what it says on the tin:

Christmas Books

I had a secret agenda in buying this next book for Martin’s Christmas, and I’m pleased to say it was a quick read, so he’s finished with it, and I’ve got it lined up, ready to read. Creativity is high on my agenda this month, so I’m hoping this next one is a gooder:

Borrowed Book

Of course, before I get to read Ignore Everybody, I have a pile of books I’m currently browsing. Trust Agents
hasn’t really kept me engaged, if I’m honest – and I’ve been struggling to get motivated to finish it. Stonehenge
is the type of book I love to save for holiday reading, but somehow it’s sneaked in, and I do love a Bernard Cornwell. Bread is my current kitchen bible (another River Cottage endeavour – and if you’re a bread maker you simply MUST read it). And there’s nothing like a New Year to overhaul your attitude – so Ali Campbell’s “Caring, Compassionate Kick Up the Ass!“:

Currently Reading

And coming up rear is my fresh delivery. Four days late, a little bashed and dropped in the snow (thanks Amazon Prime!) I can’t wait to get my hands on Rome: The Emperor’s Spy – I so very much enjoyed Manda Scott’s Boudica series. And there’s more creativity in there (recommended by the fine gentleman that is dwlt, if I recall correctly):
