This adventure is based on house-swapping. That is, we go to stay in someone’s house in Spain and France – and those people in turn come to stay in our house. It is our first time, and most friends and family cannot imagine doing the same – opening up their house to ‘strangers’ is a concept they are mostly not comfortable with.
For us, it is an easy proposition. The most difficult part is imagining why people would want to come and stay in our location! Our minds are put at ease when we begin to look at our location from the point of view of a tourist.
We don’t leave as many instructions as we would have liked, being so busy beforehand with work and familial duties. And we are dependent on the support of our family to help us with the exchanges (thanks Mum, Billy, Beata & Steve!), so it is not without responsibiity.
We are delighted with our Catalonian home. And just hope our hosts are as happy in our home. The best bit was actually meeting Sylvia and Chevvy.
A special couple – there is no doubt. And we do hope they will return to Scotland at some point and we can perhaps share a glass or two and exchange more cross-cultural observations.
Wish you were here…
Julie
