On the advice of our hosts Silvia and Chevvy, we took a drive to the most beautiful medieval village, Els Hostalets d’en Bas, in the mountains to buy some special bread.
The “pan” was indeed special – and may possibly be the biggest loaf we’ve ever had the good grace to eat.
The shop was very special, and probably hasn’t changed in hundreds of years. We observed a huge amount of traffic from locals as we took a refreshment in the cafe opposite.
The village was picture-perfect, and we decided that if we were to build villages, they would all be just like this.
We lingered for a long time here over a healthy lunch. The waitress explained they don’t have a “tourist season” – their village and surroundings are so special they entertain visitors all year round.
