Reduce Carbon Emissions with your PC

by Organikal on February 12, 2007

More than 30 billion kilowatt-hours of energy is
wasted because many of us simply forget to shut down our computers when
we’re not using them.
If we could just improve the efficiency
of how we use our PCs, the savings in energy costs would be over $3
billion! The CO2 emissions from just 15 computers are equivalent in
energy terms to the gas consumption used by one car.

That’s what the Local Cooling website tells us. Basically, the folks at Uniblue Labs have created a non-commercial software application which helps PC users reduce the amount of carbon released into our precious atmosphere, by automatically optimising your PC’s power save settings.

Like many readers, I have my PC switched on pretty much most of the day, and for some of that time, I’ll be cooking up some tasty organikal treats in the kitchen, or indeed just not at my desk, so I’ve installed the software this morning, and I’ll report back on my stats. I’ve also joined the “spread the news” program and will see just how much of a difference I can make in combination with other like minded folks. Just click on the banner above and let’s see what happens.

Thanks to dwlt for sending me the link.
